Seller Name: Fr. Paul KinseyWe are offering for sale a rare and most unusual Georgian Sweetmeat or Jelly Stand, or turntable, c. 1810, similar to a 'Lazy Susan' which is usually less elevated and lower to the surface of the table. It was a common custom to retire from the dinning room to another place, where sweetmeats or Jellies would be eaten, standing up, during conversation with guests. In grand houses, such as Woburn Abbey, amongst several other larger country houses, there would be turrets or even Banqueting Towers on the roof, where people would gather after dinner, to converse, admire the scenery and consume a small desert served in a glass or small pieces of candied, sugar or honey coated fruit or nuts. This is quite typical, in style, of a Georgian piece, some 200 years old, surmounted with an acorn finial.
NB The stand is not supplied with the glasses. They may be purchased separately.
