A set of four 1930's Bimini 'Lamp-work Aperitif Glasses designed by the Austrian Jew Fritz Lampi. He was an out of work glass-blower who began his company in the basement of his house in Vienna in 1923 and created a range of delicate, complicated glassware. These particular glasses depict mermaid stems holding the bowls. When the Nazi (Third Reich) annexed Austria in 1938, Jews were forbidden to own or run a business. Consequently, Lampi and his family fled to England. Murano produced glasses of a similar design but Bimini glass is much thinner and more delicate. They stand at 4.5 inches high and weighing a mere 24 grams, a strong breath or gust of wind would blow them off your hand !!!
