Seller Name: Fr. Paul KinseyA rare ceramic piece, a bone china box with transfer-printed decoration, was manufactured by W.H. Goss to celebrate the lives of the Ladies of Llangollen, Lady Eleanor Butler and Miss Sarah Ponsonby. These educated women were a well-known couple in the late 18th and early 19th century. After eloping from Ireland in 1778, they settled in Wales, establishing a residence, Plas Newydd, on the outskirts of the village of Llangollen. They played host to many renowned individuals, including European royalty, British celebrities, the Duke of Wellington, Wordsworth, Shelley, Sir Walter Scott, and Josiah Wedgwood. The two women, truly devoted to each other, spent their entire lives together and never once spent a night apart.
