Seller Name: Fr. Paul KinseyAn antique Cookery Book, dating from 1908, having belonged to a lady called Elsie Livingstone from Kendal in the Lake District. The famous 19th century Missionary and Explorer, David Livingstone had connections with Kendal and perhaps this may have been a relative. Typical of the late Victorian/ early 20th century Cook's books, it has Recipes, Health & Skin Care food for Invalids and the care of children. There is also a section of the effect of food on the body which we have not seen before, with recommendation such as Lime Water for Rickets and Oatmeal for Constipation. There are the usual 'recipes' for polishing furniture and silver, together with other fascinating advice from preparing Buttered Eggs, Chocolate Custard and hand-made sweets, and lots more ! There must be about 60 pages of food recipes from a time when there was no regulated heat, merely the ovens on a coal or gas-fired 'range'. It is a delightful little book, sized to fit into the pocket of a cooks apron!
