Description

An unusual piece, a Georgian period, blown glass, Toddy Lifter for transferring drinks from a bowl or large dish to a glass. The Lifter is put into the bowl and a finger or thumb placed over the hole in the top. The liquid which has entered the Lifter through a hole in the base of the piece, is the 'lifted' to a glass and when the hole at the top is uncovered, the drink pours into the glass. The date of manufacture is c. 1820. There are no cracks or chips, although there are two little defects within the glass created when the piece was blown.
