Pengersick Castle Its coming home

Published: 28 May 2023

Lovely friends, visitors and customers, we are delighted that our 18th century, hand-coloured, Buck engraving of Pengersick Castle, in Cornwall, is making its way home! Following a conversation with Mr. Jay Hodgetts, the Chairman of the Pengersick Trust, which maintains this beautiful, historic building, who has been trying to find a hand-coloured engraving for some considerable time, it will be 'enshrined' where it belongs!
The item has been verified by the prestigious Trowbridge Gallery as a genuine 18th Century, hand-coloured engraving of the East view of Pengersick Castle in Cornwall, by brothers, Samuel & Nathaniel Buck (c.1740) from their survey of English Castles, set in an incredibly beautiful and unusual 'fanned' mount and a beautiful Ebonised, glazed frame, with delicate gilt decoration at the corners. It is definitely one of the most tasteful engravings we have ever acquired.
In a sense, it is another triumph for Abbott Antiques in successfully matching an item of stock with a place, the last time was an Antique Irish Linen Table-cloth bearing the Coat of Arms of the Wilbraham Family of Rode Hall in Cheshire!
